Sand play..........

The kids absolutely love the sandbox! The sandbox is usually their first stop when we head outside. They typically peel off their shoes (Kelton is shown in one of these pictures with his shoes on) and jump in. I know that they are coming home pretty dirty, but I feel the benefits of sand play are endless. One of the benefits has been language and social development. They immediately start cooperating with their friends to come up with different play scenarios. "Here you start making the road, I will go get the dump truck." "I'm makin' pancakes.", etc. Of course it is improving their large and fine motor skills, with all the digging, scooping, transferring sand to different containers, taking turns burying each other's feet and making an "escape" from the sand trap. :) They are able to develop concepts of volume, with their constant filling and dumping of different sized containers. It is truly a joy to see them experience all these things. :)
