We explored several different items in the water table. We started out with sponges. I asked them questions. What happened to the sponge? How does the sponge feel different? Can you squeeze the water out of the sponge? They worked together to transfer water from different containers using the sponges. We also explored scientific concepts such as evaporation when I had them wring out a sponge as well as they could and set it in the sun to dry. I then asked them, what do you think happened to the water? How does the sponge feel now? I explained that tools can be used for a specific purpose, when they used a big dropper to make the water mill run. I encouraged them to explore the properties of running water by using funnels. (Check out Kelton's face in the next to the last picture.)
I would love to know what Kelton was thinking!
